The Best Move in Fighting [Video}

This is a video we did a couple of years ago about the back control position. I’m showing it again because I think it’s good for 2 things that I get asked about quite a bit by beginners.

1.      What are the big differences between Gi and NoGi training

This video has a piece at the start about that. I explain the speed and timing difference between the Gi and NoGi games. Essentially, the lack of material makes more differences to your technique than you think. This is part of the reason why I highly recommend Gi training for older guys and girls.

2.      What’s the highest percentage move in Jiu Jitsu?

It’s not so much a move as a strategy, but getting behind your opponent to choke them is by far and away the most successful grappling move in fighting. The stats for the UFC tell the story-

If we take all of the available submissions- chokes, armlocks, leglocks, spinal locks, you name it, and we go through the stats, you’ll find that 50% of all submissions in the UFC were achieved by rear naked choke.

That bears repeating. The whole rest of the submission arsenal gets one half of the submissions. The rear naked choke ALONE gets the other half.

What’s the lesson?

Get good at getting behind your opponent, and get good at this choke I’m teaching in this video.

See you on the mat,

Barry
